Chairman’s Message

Recognizing its importance and health, environmental and economic benefits, the state, represented in the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA), has paid great attention to the organic farming activity in order to meet the global development of organic farming. To this end, the Council of Ministers issued the Decision No. 273 on 21/08/1428 A.H. approving the establishment of the Saudi Organic Farming Association (SOFA).

The Council of Ministers’ decision approving the establishment of SOFA serves as an umbrella for the private sector interested in this activity including all farmers, processing plants, marketers and other actors. Such decision contributes to implementation, development and growth of organic farming industry in KSA acting in interest of the members in coordination with the relevant authorities, most notably, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture. Such decision aims to protect the interests of this vital and important sector, prevent exercising the practices in violation of the rules and regulations of organic production, processing and marketing in KSA. SOFA intends to promote the organic agriculture industry and organic production in KSA and all relevant matters contributing to the development of this activity.

SOFA strives to support trust between the producer and consumer in coordination with MEWA by granting the logo of Saudi organic products to farms and processing plants establishing that the product has been produced in accordance with the rules and requirements of organic production. Furthermore, the product is certified by a specialized body licensed by MEWA to confirm that the product meets the requirements of organic production.

SOFA endeavors to build a bridge of cooperation between all relevant stakeholders in the public and private sectors in KSA and abroad to promote the organic farming activity and products aiming to make such products affordable to the customers and available at the right time and place. SOFA further ensures to facilitate the mission of its members through communication with such enterprises to overcome the difficulties that may impede the advancement, development and growth of the organic farming activity in KSA.
