Engineer Abdul Rahman Al-Fadhli, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, witnessed today, in the presence of Dr. Fahd Balghunaim, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Organization for Organic Agriculture, the signing of 5 memoranda of understanding at the Ministry’s headquarters in Riyadh between the Saudi Society for Organic Agriculture and a number of private sector companies and cooperative societies.
This came in the presence of a number of ministry officials, the private sector and cooperative societies in the Kingdom, where the five memoranda aims to support the marketing of organic foods in the Kingdom, develop the marketing field in the sector, solve the obstacles facing organic farmers after production and enable them to display and market their products.
She explained that the memoranda of understanding aim to work on providing packaging solutions and reducing costs for farmers by activating the purchase and unified demand, preparing their products, supporting the marketing of the organic product by facilitating its access to markets, supporting the process of storing the product and delivering it to the consumer, and creating models to support logistical solutions that constitute a burden and a major challenge on farms, in addition to involving The private sector with organic producers to ensure the sustainability and continuity of business.
She pointed out that the memoranda of understanding also aim to raise the level of cooperation between the Saudi Organization for Organic Agriculture and the private sector in the field of supply chains and logistics services for appropriate packaging to ensure the transportation of organic products and maintain their safety and speed of delivery from farmers to the target destinations and make them available to the final consumer at the best competitive costs in addition to employing technology Modern and marketing platforms to serve the organic agriculture sector in the Kingdom.
She stated that organic agriculture in the Kingdom has achieved positive results in recent years by increasing production and developing it to be a safe and healthy food product free of chemical components to contribute to achieving sustainable development and stimulating the transition to organic agriculture, as it is one of the most important pillars for building sustainable production patterns with high competitiveness.
The ministry’s sponsorship of these memos confirms the importance of developing the organic food market in the local market, as it is the main engine for the growth and renaissance of the sector, as it indicated that during the past period the focus was on the movement of the organic food market to contribute to overcoming the challenges faced by farmers and the logistical difficulties of producers in cooperation with the private sector and associations Co-operative and related parties.

This came during His Highness' weekly session, which was held yesterday at Al-Tawheed Palace in Buraidah, entitled (Organic Agriculture .. Its Importance and Benefits), in which His Excellency the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Organization for Organic Agriculture, Dr. Fahd Balghunaim, spoke. His Highness the Prince of Al-Qassim explained that the Saudi Society for Organic Agriculture has a great interest in spreading awareness of the importance of organic and pure agriculture, which is a requirement for humans to preserve their health, drawing attention to the fact that the state - dear God - has spared no effort in caring for consumer health, praising the role played by His Excellency Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Organization for Organic Agriculture to support organic farming programs and spread this culture among farmers, indicating the role hoped for by the association, its importance and the requirements for its support to farmers interested in organic agriculture in the region.
For his part, His Excellency the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Organization for Organic Agriculture, Dr. Fahd Balghunaim, valued the interest of His Highness the Prince of Qassim to provide the opportunity to hold such a meeting, indicating that the Saudi Association for Organic Agriculture has an independent legal personality and financial responsibility, established by a decision of the Council of Ministers, and aims to advance the profession of agriculture. Organic and its products and everything that would develop this activity, and its work is parallel to the work of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.
Al-Ghunaim spoke about the beginning of organic agriculture in the Kingdom, and the adoption by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture of citizens' initiatives to support organic agriculture, explaining that the concept of organic agriculture in the first place is completely away from chemicals or control. For his part, Director of the Organic Production Department at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Engineer Ayman Al-Ghamdi, explained that the activity of organic agriculture is one of the activities that the Ministry has worked on to develop and develop during 16 years in the organizational, legislative and marketing aspects, and that a project for the development of organic agriculture was established in 2005, and a contract was made with one of the Houses of Expertise, in five phases, completed in 2017.
Al-Ghamdi indicated that the ministry has trained specialists and established an organic production department; To be the reference body for the sector in cooperation with the association, and to set up model farms in all regions of the Kingdom, and to hold technical workshops in coordination with all branches of the ministry at that time, in addition to placing a special logo for organic products in order to ensure the accuracy of the product and to ensure to the consumer that it is organic, revealing that the volume of Organic production reached 1.3 billion, the area of organic farms is 27 thousand hectares, and the volume of animal production is 14,800 heads, indicating that the growth rates of the organic agriculture sector in the Kingdom during 2019 - 2020 reached 18.8% in the organic food market, and the number of approved documentation companies There are 6 companies in the Kingdom that grant certificates of authentication for organic products.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Saudi Organic Agriculture Association, Abdullah Al-Hussan, reviewed the roles and tasks of the association and the importance of the benefits of organic agriculture. Technically and financially, conducting field technical visits for farmers to switch to organic farming, diagnosing the challenges facing farmers and keenness to find solutions for them in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, pointing out that the number of organic farms in the Kingdom is 312, and the number of farms in Qassim is 20, and the number of farms in Qassim is 20. At the end of the session, His Highness the Prince of Qassim honored His Excellency the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Society for Organic Agriculture, Dr. Fahd Balghunaim, in appreciation of his participation and the informative and enriching information he provided to the attendees.
The initiatives of the National Center for Palms and Dates, including the Saudi Date Mark, contributed to the adoption of quality standards for exportable dates.
